April 14, 1863. Waiting.
'Tuesday 14th. This A.M. Reg't still quiet. Orders changed, so as to allow all convalescents, who will be unable to follow reg't in 10 days, to remain here. I am among the few. Capt sent to the station & got the boys knapsacks who are to remain, & got us guns & equipments, our own, or others. I got none of my own." ~ Diary of Horace Barlow, 105, Pvt., Co. C, 12th Regiment
